My wish finally came true! They kept saying we were going to get snow and we did have some flurries the other day, but it didn’t stick. Samuel was 5-6 months old the last time he saw snow, so he doesn’t remember it.
He wanted to go out when it first started but quickly decided he didn’t like it. We came back in the house after a few minutes and he said ” what’s this on me?”  I said those are snowflakes and he said ” get those off me.”
Once the girls saw how much snow was out there, they decided they wanted to go out and play. Samuel enjoyed himself much more the 2nd time around. I was happy to wake up and see the snow was still on the ground. We’re headed back out in it soon. I’m so glad it finally snowed! We didn’t get any last winter. We only  have 1-2inches and it’s just enough to make the neighborhood look pretty. Snow covered trees and roofs, the kids footprints in the snow.

Don’t forget to link up your winter posts to the Winter Edition of The Year Round Blog Carnival.

Eight Years Old

We had a just family celebration for Kiah on her birthday. The party with friends and family will be this weekend….at Chuck E. Cheese…per her request. She had so much fun with her friends there last year and told us that’s where she wanted back in October.

Charles came to stay for a few days for her birthday and the kids really enjoyed having him here.
She opened gifts first thing after waking up. A fashion designer set from me, a pop-up space book from Mamaw and Peepaw, a Mario baseball game from Uncle R with a doll that she’s not put down since she opened it.

Ms. 8yr old Kiah also requested a Brownie cake for her birthday. Since it started getting late Wednesday we decided to bake the brownies Thursday. We used this recipe. They were delicious! She’s not a big chocolate eater, but she loves brownies….and requested I top them with chocolate chips like her friends mommy does. I helped with measuring but the girls did all the mixing and pouring.
We have the pleasure of making another batch for her party Saturday.

Daily Life

image

It was easy to loose track of time or what day it was this past week. All of us are sleeping on a wacky schedule….hoping to reset it that over the next couple of weeks.

There’s something very familiar about our daily life – I think that’s a good and bad thing. Good because there’s a rhythm that came without much thought and planning on my part. Bad because knowing what’s coming next can be boring after a while.

I’ve heard lots of Mom…Ava called me a hurt machine. Mom….Kiah called me a hurt machine 100 times and I only said it 10 times. Mama, mom, mommy, moooooooommmmmm!!!!

And then I want to hide for a few hours. I don’t always respond with gentleness…lately I’ve been extremely grumpy feeling and I have to daily pray for strength to make it through the day. I think more and better ways of self care would benefit me greatly. The kids don’t need a martyr for a mother. I’m always so worried that all the kids will remember is my yelling and being or seeming upset all the time. Choosing to have a positive outlook before my feet hit the floor in the morning goes extremely well until the first mishap of the day happens…and that mishap turns into a snowball.  I’m trying to be more conscious of the tone in my voice, my body language, and my facial expressions. This mothering thing is hard!

Things I hope they’ll remember about our daily life: family, togetherness, cooking with me, playing on the computer, nature walks, watching their favorite shows over and over again. All the laughing and playing with each other, the favorite video games, books, coloring, blocks, puzzles, drawing. I could go on….and when I think of it like that, our daily life doesn’t seem so bad.
There are definitely things I want to improve on, but I’m doing pretty well working with what I’ve got.

30 Days of Gratitude Day 2: My Children

Over the last few months I’ve spent a lot of time  focusing on what I don’t have, what I want, or think I need.
For the month of November I’m focusing on all that I have in my life to be thankful for. You can join me by posting on your own blog or leaving a comment.

I take my kids for granted more than I care to admit. Parenting them can be overwhelming at times, but it’s a joy more than anything else. Each one unique, creative and curious about the world. Seems like they were all just tiny babies not too long ago…. And time has gone faster with each one – didn’t think that was possible.
I can’t imagine life without them….I love them so much.

I’m also joining a Thankful Project with
The Artsy Girl and a Gratitude Challenge with Garden of Learning in giving thanks this month.
