30 Days of Gratitude Day 5: Weekends

Nov5th
2012

Over the last few months I’ve spent a lot of time focusing on what I don’t have, what I want, or think I need. For the month of November I’m focusing on all that I have in my life to be thankful for. You can join me by posting on your own blog or leaving a comment.

What is it about the weekends that can be so relaxing and make you want to slow down?
I think Sunday may be my favorite weekend day….I love to cook Sunday dinner when I can.

This past weekend was about cinnamon rolls for breakfast and ribs, baked potatoes, and green beans for dinner.

Trying to explain daylight savings time to the girls.

Playing with dolls and painting them with makeup….also the girls putting makeup on themselves.

Talking about a Birthday party for Kiah and Christmas presents.

Samuel dumping all of his cars and trucks into the floor, picking one for him to play with and then one for me.

Mama knitting and enjoying a glass of wine…. Letting my mind roam to all sorts of possibilities, hopes and dreams for the future.

Watching the kids be creative with blank paper, crayons, and their imaginations.

Listing a new Rainbow Crochet Cowl to my etsy shop.

Watching digger truck videos on YouTube with Samuel….listening to him talking about them diggering, so cute!

Discovering Brainpop Jr is free all week was a pretty big deal.

How was your weekend? What are you thankful for today?

Perfect Weekend

I wasn’t too sure how this weekend was going to turn out…lucky for me it ended up being fabulous!

Saturday: I attended a Graco Blogger Event at Babies R Us. My friend TheDanaK picked me up and we had a great time.
Let me tell ya, this new carseat, the Graco Snugride Click Connect 40 is pretty amazing. Two carseats in one-it goes from birth to two years old(40lbs).

It’s always nice to meet other bloggers in person. We bloggers speak our own language. We get to talking about Twitter, how often we do or don’t blog, how and why we started, what our blog is about. It’s really quite fascinating.

We browsed the store and then went to browse Target for belly/body butters, but came up empty.
She offered to buy me Starbucks and who says no to that? I had one of these-iced because it was quite hot that day….it was delicious!

I enjoyed a glass-or two of Moscato in the evening and watched Inception after the kids were in bed. That has made it on my list of movie favorites. I love pretty much anything Leonardo DiCaprio is in….and not just because I watched him in Growing Pains as a kid, and thought he was cute, but because he is a terrific actor.

Sunday: the kids were up early so we were lazy around the house, watching tv, eating breakfast. It wasn’t long before they were outside on their bikes, eating popsicles, playing in the dirt, and chasing each other around.

I did my usual – knitting, taking pictures and playing around on Instagram…and of course soaking up as much Vitamin D as possible.

Later in the afternoon I attempted to watch Coraline with Kiah(7) It’s one of her favorite movies. Tim Burton is a genius! Ava doesn’t care for it so she and Samuel did other things…. and if I wasn’t getting up to check on them myself, I was being called by one or both of them for something.

I started feeling anxious in the evening, so I made chocolate chip cookies. Baking and washing dishes have become anxiety reducers for me, much like knitting.

The night ended perfectly…After the kids were in bed I spoke on the phone with a friend from Minnesota. We haven’t chatted on the phone since I moved away three years ago. We have kept in touch via Facebook, but it was so good to hear her voice! We talked for 2hrs. She was so inspiring and wise… and I woke up thinking about our conversation. Those are the kinds of people I want and need in my life. I’m letting out a HUGE happy sigh for a perfect weekend.

How was yours?

Whirlwind Weekend

Saturday:

My friend Dee came over with her kids and while they played we sat chatting and laughing about all sorts of stuff.
I always love talking with her….she’s inspiring, funny, and knows where to find information on everything about anything.

We ended up by the water near my house. The weather was perfect and the scenery was beautiful. The kids were throwing rocks, running and climbing on things-being kids.

Nakiah and Ava are on this having a boyfriend, falling in love and getting married kick, so they chased her two boys all over with their lips puckered.
I think it’s a result of their age, princess movies and the little rascals.

Sat up sharing ideas for various projects with Charles after the kids were in bed. That’s always nice and I’m glad he’s so supportive.

Sunday:

I was very happy to attend church after not being able to go for three weeks. Samuel and Ava being sick two weeks in a row and my tooth issues kept me home. I’m doing much better with that tooth now….just need to get in to the dentist asap. I really really reallylove our new church home. I also love that the girls enjoy children’s church so much. Makes Charles and I very happy that the kids are excited to go every week. It’s heart warming.

After church the kids went bike riding. Kiah got a new bike on Thursday and she’s been out on it everyday since. I’ve enjoyed sitting outside, sun beating down on me, light fall chill in the air, watching them go up and down the street.

Later on my dad took me to Michael’s so I could pick up more yarn and needles….I’ve decided to go on and open an etsy shop. Hope to have things up and running in a little over two weeks. I’m nervous and excited….I figure if nothing sells it won’t be too terrible…. I’ll have ready made Christmas gifts for the family!

This entire last week was exactly what I needed to get my happy back. The weekend was the icing on the cake.
