Loving The Ordinary Moments

I am so happy and proud to announce my new Instagram Community: Loving The Ordinary Moments. I have help from these amazing ladies:  Chene of thehappyyoungsters, Tori of mydarlingladies, and Jillian of murphyfamoffour.   I had been toying with the idea for a while and decided to take the jump and make it happen. So glad I did! In less than three weeks the hashtag(#lovingtheordinarymoments)has over 350 photos in it.

If you’ve been reading this blog or following me on Instagram then you know I’m a huge fan and advocate for the ordinary moments. I don’t know about you, but it’s easy for me to get weighed down by the mundane things we do every.single.day. It could be something as simple as your morning cup of coffee, taking the kids to school, grocery shopping, picking up toys, cooking dinner, sitting outside while the kids play. If we’re not careful, we’ll miss it. Our children will be another year older, life will pass us by and it will be “just another day”.

I’ve been blogging for 8yrs now and every once in a while I like to go through old posts. It reminds me of why I started. I’m very happy this space is full of our day to day. The way one of my kids hands looked holding a mud pie, tiny legs and toes dangling off my lap, field trips, etc.

This is what it’s all about. Finding joy in and loving the ordinary moments.

I need his constant reminder because it’s too easy to take our life for granted. I can’t stop them from growing up. We’ll have a lot of hard days and sometimes weeks, but I don’t want to miss what’s right in front of me in the midst of day to day life. I want to freeze time for that fraction of a second. I want to look at a photo and remember the way the sun felt on my face, and the overwhelming love I felt even though I was having a really bad day.

Several people have told me they love the idea behind the community and enjoy the photos we’ve been sharing. It’s about getting back to the basics and remembering that ordinary can be beautiful. This is why I enjoy documentary style photography, and it’s why I created LTOM on Instagram.

What is ordinary and beautiful to you? Can you challenge yourself to find it if you can’t think of anything? Is it your children, traveling solo, light pouring through the window, flowers on the coffee table, knitting, the beach, sunsets? I hope you’ll spread the word and join us!

p.s. I’m still using the mobile app and can’t figure out why I have such huge line breaks in my paragraphs. Please excuse the mess 🙂
